Early life
Anna Sorokina was born on the 23rd of January, 1991 in Domodedovo, Moscow Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. Her father was a truck driver, and her mom used to run a small convenience store. In 2007, her family relocated to Germany. Sorokin was described as a quiet girl by peers while she joined the girls’ gymnasium in Eschweiler.
Anna completed her high school graduation in 2011 and moved to London to stud at Central Saint Martins. However, she later quit studying and moved back to Germany. She initially served at a public relations company before working as an intern for the French fashion magazine, Purple. While serving at the fashion magazine, she adopted the fake surname Delvey.

In Summer 2013, she flew to New York City to make her presence at the New York Fashion Week. She found it easy to make friends in New York, she decided to transfer to Purple’s New York office. Though after some time, she quit her job at Purple and came up with the idea of inventing the Anna Delvey Foundation, where wealthy members would join as members. She had little success in obtaining money from the idea of Foundation to investors.
Then she came up with an alternative means through which she could obtain more money. She eventually created fake bank statements which would show that she has access to around €60 million in Swiss bank accounts. As a part of her plan, she submitted a loan application of $22 million to City National Bank in November 2016. After failing to extend credit from City National Bank, she submitted a loan application to Fortress Investment Group, which they agreed if she would pay $100 thousand to cover legal expenses.
Anna later visited back to City National Bank where she tried to convince an employee to create a temporary overdraft facility giving her words that she would repay quickly. However, the managing director became suspicious of her application as her passport showed as she was born in Russian and she was identifying herself as of German heritage. In the end, Anna withdrew the application. In February 2017, she was quickly identified as a cash tipper by the hotel staff after she checked into 11 Howard Hotel.
The hotel management later found that she had not filed a credit card upon which they insisted that she would settle her $30,000 bill. Although she tried to keep the hotel staff on her side by gifting them 1975 Dom Perignon champagne. However, the staff didn’t take the gift as it was against the hotel policy. Anna later forged a charter flight service, Blade by sending them a forged wire transfer confirmation ship.
Sorokin was again found playing her old scam tricks while staying at Beekman Hotel and the hotel W New York Union Square. But this time, the two hotels pressed charges against her on the theft of services.
Sorokin was getting investigated on the instances of bank fraud by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. In August 2017, a grand jury was convened to consider the charges against her. She was finally arrested on October 3, 2017, in a sting operation that was planned by the NYPD officer, Michael McCaffrey.
In October 2017, her indictment was announced by the Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance Jr. In May 2019, she was fined $24,000 with 4 to 12 years imprisonment in state prison. She was also ordered to pay restitution of around $199,000.
In February 2021, she was released from prison and in March 2021, she was again taken into custody for her overstaying visa by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her real-life story was presented as a TV adaptation with the title “Inventing Anna” on Netflix, She reportedly received $320,000 for her life story from Netflix.

Anna Sorokin currently mentioned that she is looking for a boyfriend after she was locked up in prison. She shared in her Instagram post with the caption “Looking for a boyfriend”. However, her Instagram post received sarcasm as she has defrauded businesses and friends pretending to be a fake heiress.
On the Netflix miniseries, ‘Inventing Anna’, she was seen in a relationship with a wealthy app developer, Chase Sikorski. According to reports, the character of the series is based on her real-life partner. However, her alleged boyfriend Chase never showed in reality.
