While playing for the high school team, the twins assumed a leading role as a freshman and helped the team reach the state quarterfinals. Haley Cavinder earned the most valuable player honors at an annual high school competition, the Nike Tournament of Champions.

The twins were eventually signed to Fresno State despite receiving individual offers. Fresno State offered a deal to both of them as they noticed that the twins would show their best form if they play as a duo. Among the twins, Haley was named the conference player of the year after playing in the Mountain West Conference.

The Cavinder sisters found themselves at the center of the NCAA’s first NIl infractions ruling following a nearly year-long investigation into Miami’s women’s basketball program and the University’s recruiting.

In February 2023, the NCAA eventually reached a negotiated resolution with the women’s basketball program of the Hurricanes for multiple violations. The violation included Meier serving a 3-game suspension at the beginning of the season.
