Devin McCourty and his twin brother started at cornerback for the Rutgers football team. While playing as a cornerback, he complied 63 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 blocks, and one forced fumble. He was named an All-Big East Conference academic selection in his first two seasons.

In 2008, he began his junior season and started 13 games as a cornerback. He had the third-longest yard kickoff return in school history when he had a 98-yard kickoff return. Devin’s professional career began when the New England Patriots picked him up in the 2010 NFL Draft.

McCourty made his professional regular season debut and appeared in his first career start against the Cincinnati Bengals. In his first career start, he recorded five solo tackles. Devin became an unrestricted free agent in the year 2015 and received interest from NFL teams like New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. Though, he was again signed by Patriots for a five-year in March 2015. In September 2016, the Patriots selected him as one of four team captains to begin the regular season.

In March 2020, he signed a two-year contract extension with the Patriots. He recorded his first interception of the season in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks.
