Drea de Matteo was born on the 19th of January, 1972 in New York City. She was born to Albert and Donna. Her father was the owner and CEO of Avery Boardman and Carlyle. While her mom is a playwright who worked as a playwriting teacher at HB Studio. She grew up in a Catholic family and belongs to Italian descent.

Matteo completed her high school education at the Loyola School. Then, she attended the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She completed her University graduation in Fine Arts in film production. She initially wanted to become a film director, and eventually studied acting at the HB Studio.

Drea started off her acting career in 1996 by appearing as Laurie Tuco in the detective drama series “Swift Justice”. She got her breakthrough role in 1999 after she was finalized for the character of Adriana La Cerva in the crime drama series “The Sopranos”. She received wide recognition and also earned many awards and nominations for her outstanding performance in the series. Drea received an Emmy award for Best Supporting Actress on Season 5 of the series in 2004.

Then, she played the role of Joey Tribbiani’s sister, Gina in Joey, which was a spin-off/sequel to Friends. She appeared in the series for two seasons until it was canceled in 2006. Following that, she portrayed the character of Wendy Case in the FX original series “Sons of Anarchy”. The first episodes of the series aired in September 2008. Afterward, she continuously made regular appearances in the TV series’ sixth season. Drea was eventually promoted to a regular for the 7th and final season.

Then, she appeared as Angie Bolen, who was the mother of the Bolen family on the sixth season of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives. However, she ended her association with Desperate Housewives in 2010 at the Season 6 finale due to some personal reasons.

Drea made a guest appearance in Showtime’s comedy series “Californication” in 2012. Then, she appeared as Steve Wilde, who was the stepmother of the main character of the Fox comedy series, Running Wilde. She continued to impress with her incredible acting skills by starring as Det. Tess Nazario in NBC’s drama series “Shades of Blue”.

Drea De Matteo started dating American musician, Shooter Jennings in 2001. The pair became engaged in June 2009 after she was proposed to by Jennings onstage during a show at the Stanley Theater in Utica, New York. Together, they have two kids, a son, Waylon Albert “Blackjack” and a daughter, Alabama Gypsyrose. The two never married and concluded their relationship without marrying.

Matteo is currently dating Whitesnake bass guitarist, Michael Devin. She became engaged to Devin in July 2015. Matteo had an apartment house in East Village, Manhattan, which she lost during a gas explosion and raging fire in March 2015.
