Erica Banks was born on the 5th of October, 1998 in DeSoto, Texas. She was born to black American parents. However, not much detail is available regarding her parents. She grew up with two brothers. Erica studied at DeSoto High School. Later, she attended Texas A&m University-Commerce as a nursing student.

Erica was 12 when she started writing poetry. She also competed and won several school contests. Erica began rapping when she was studying in high school. She recorded her first tracks while attending Texas University. Erica eventually dropped out of the University in her sophomore year.

In the early phase of her career, she spent many years traveling on the weekends from Desoto to downtown Dallas where she would connect with DJs and clubs to get her music played. Banks dropped her first track titled “Talk My Shit” in 2018. She released her first song independently through SoundCloud.

Then, in March 2019, she self-released her debut official mixtape, Art of the Hustle. After a month, in April 2019, she signed a record deal with 1501 Certified Entertainment. She was immediately signed by the label after she played a snipped of her single, Buss It for the record label’s CEO, Carl Crawford in an Instagram Live video.

Erica was still signed with 1501 Certified when she released her two mixtapes “Pressure” and “Cocky on Purpose”. After a while, she dropped her fourth mixtape through 1501 Certified in June 2020. Her self-titled fourth mixtape includes the full version of the two singles, Buss It and Give Me That.

Erica received wide recognition after the release of Buss It in January 2021. The song also became the subject of viral trends on TikTok, which gave her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. That same month, she was signed by Warner Records and was featured on the rapper, Yella Beezy’s song, Star.

In April 2022, she released her new songs, Pop Out and Slim Waist. She also finished a tour opening for Summer Walker that same month. After that, she headed out with rapper, T-Pain. Erica got herself in the limelight in April 2022 after she claimed that Nicki Minaj works with female rappers, who don’t know how to rap. During her appearance at Revolt’s show Big Facts, she broke down why Minaj has blocked her on social media despite sending multiple requests to her for a collaboration.

Though, she refused to take out the names of rappers who don’t know how to rap when she was encouraged by hosts. She continued to support her statement by saying that It’s the truth everybody can’t Rap. Banks eventually burst out on Nick Minaj through a tweet after she blocked him. On the other hand, Minaj has been consistently working with newcomers including Bia (Whole Lotta Money Remix) and Coi Leray (Blick Blick).
