Harlan Crow was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1949. He was born as the third son of Trammell Crow, and Margaret Doggett Crow. Harlan grew up with four brothers and a sister. Regarding his education, he attended the Randolph-Macon Academy and then studied at Emory University in Georgia. Later, he transferred to the University of Texas and received a BBA.

Harlan Crow initially served as a leasing agent for the Trammell Crow Houston Industrial. He joined the company in 1974 and served until 1978. After that, he became associated with the Trammel Crow Company. There, he managed the Office Building development operations based in Dallas.

In 1986, he joined the Wyndham Hotel Company as a President. He dedicated four years to the company until 1988. After leaving Wyndham Hotel, he took responsibility for a real estate development firm, Crow Holdings in 1988. Harlan joined the real estate firm during a downturn in the company’s finances.

Crow came into controversy in 2023 after the reports published that he has given several gifts to Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas. The gift includes a $19,000 Bible belonging to Frederick Douglass. In addition to that, Crow gave a portrait of the Court Justice and his wife.

According to sources, Justice Thomas has accepted many gifts from Crow, including numerous week-long luxury trips on his superyacht, and domestic and international private jet travel. Crow’s gift became controversial after new rules took effect on March 14, 2023.
