Early Life

Henry James Ruggs was born in Montgomery, Alabama on January 24, 1999. He was raised by his parents, Nataki Ruggs and Henry Ruggs Jr.

Ruggs studied at Robert E. Lee High School. He was promoted to the varsity football team while studying in the eighth grade. Ruggs started playing for the high school team after junior year.

Ruggs was named the second-best high school football player by 247Sports.com in 2017. Thereafter, he received scholarship offers from over 20 colleges to play football. At last, he made the decision and selected the University of Alabama.

In 2017, Henry had 12 receptions for 229 yards and 6 touchdowns as a true freshman at Alabama. The following year, as a sophomore, he recorded 46 receptions for 741 yards and eleven touchdowns. In 2019, he recorded 40 receptions for seven touchdowns and 746 receiving yards.

Ruggs became the Alabama football team’s primary kick returner during the junior season. He recorded 24 total career receiving touchdowns which placed him third on Alabama’s all-time leaderboard. In January 2020, he decided to forgo his true senior year to enter the 2020 NFL Draft.

Ruggs became the first wide receiver to be drafted at the 2020 NFL Draft. The Las Vegas Raiders selected him and signed for a four-year in July 2020.Henry made his NFL debut against the Carolina Panthers in September 2020.

In his debut game, he made his first career catch. Then, he recorded his first 100-yard game against the Kansas City Chiefs. During the game, he recorded his first 100-yard game with his first career touchdown with 118 receiving yards.

Henry appeared in seven games in the 2021 season where he had 24 receptions, 2 touchdowns, and 469 receiving yards. On November 2, 2021, the Raiders released him after he was alleged of driving under the influence.

Personal Life

Henry Ruggs is in a relationship with his long-term girlfriend, Rudy Washington. He also has a daughter with his lady love, who was born on May 7, 2020. Ruggs got into big trouble after he had a fatal car crash on November 2, 2021.

The car crash led to a 23-year-old lady, Tina Tintor, and her dog being burned to death. After the accident, he was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving. Just a few hours before the car crash, he and his girlfriend were seen drinking at a golf driving range game, Topgolf location in Las Vegas.

Ruggs was reportedly driving the modified Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at 156 miles per hour. Suddenly, he attempted to panic-stop his Corvette as Toyota RAV4 was approaching from the opposite side. He eventually lost control and slammed into Toyota, driven by 23-year-old Tintor, at 120 miles per hour.

After the collision, Tintor and her dog lost their life. Ruggs and his girlfriend also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMCSN). After he was released from the hospital, he appeared in court the next day.

On Tuesday, May 2, Ruggs admitted that he was driving at a speed up to 156 mph which led to a car carsh and killed an innocent young lady. The former Raider opted out of a preliminary hearing and agreed to take a plea deal to one count of DUI. The plea deal could send him to Nevada state prison for 3 to 10 years.
