Jason Isbell is a singer and guitarist from Alabama. He has won four Grammy Awards in his career. Jason joined the rock band Drive-By Truckers in 2001. He separated from the band in April 2007. Isbell released his first solo album, Sirens of the Ditch in July 2007.
Jason Isbell was born in Green Hill, Alabama on February 1, 1979. He was born to Mike and Angela Hill Barnett. When he was born, his parents were very young. They also made a song after his birth titled Children of Children.
Jason was raised by his grandparents on a farm in North Alabama. Regarding his education, he studied at the University of Memphis where he studied English and creative writing. However, he could not complete his graduation after falling short of one physical education credit.

Jason Isbell was 14 or 15 when he began playing in a garage band. When he turned 16, he played at the Grand Ole Opry. At 21 years of age, he got a publishing deal with a recording studio, FAME Studios. He dedicated 15 years of his life to the recording studio.
Isbell joined the rock band, the Drive-By Truckers at age 22 while they were on tour to support their album, Southern Rock Opera. Jason has contributed to many songs for the band’s albums, Decoration Day, A Blessing and a Curse, and The Dirty South. In 2014, he revealed the title track of Decoration Day during the Live from Lincoln Center concert.
Isbell announced his departure from the rock band in April 2007. Though, he teamed with Drive-By Truckers’ band members, Mike Cooley and Hood again for a benefit at the Shoals Theatre in June 2014. He dropped his first solo album titled Sirens of the Ditch in July 2007.
In June 2013, he came up with his fourth solo album, Southeastern featuring Kim Rickey and his wife, Amanda Shires. The album earned a score of 87 on Metacritic and also received positive critical reviews. In 2022, the album was certified Gold and also received praise from known artists like John Prine and Bruce Springsteen.
Isbell released his fifth solo record titled Something More Than Free in July 2015. The album peaked at No. 1 on the rock, folk, and country record charts of Billboard Magazine. Along with that, the album also won two Grammy awards. Moreover, he was nominated for Artist of the Year at the American Music Honors & Awards. Though, he lost to Chris Stapleton.
In February 2020, he announced his new album titled Reunions and released the first song, Be Afraid. The song became a big hit and charted at No. 5 on the Adult Alternative Songs chart. In September 2021, he formally announced the album entitled Georgia Blue. That same year, he along with the band, the 400 Unit made a contribution on the cover of the song, Sad but True to the charity album, The Metalicca Blacklist.
Jason has recently been featured on the music documentary, Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed on HBO Max, which premiered on Friday, April 7. The documentary focuses on the making of his album and his married life. Likewise, the music doc also shares his struggles with addiction and relationships, his pain, and his practice battles in his music.

Jason and Amanda share a daughter named Mercy Rose Isbell. In his late 20s, Isbell was addicted to drinking and cocaine during his time with the rock band, Drive-By Truckers. He also entered a rehabilitation treatment program at Cumberland Heights in February 2012. Isbell is available on Instagram under the user name, @jasonisbell, where he has 423k followers.
