JNR Choi was born on May 20, 1999, in The Gambia. Not much is unveiled about his early life, parents, and education. The young rapper spent his early days in Thamesmead, South-East London. Then, he relocated to Essex to make a career as a model.

JNR Choi initially worked as a model, and in his first five years of modeling, he walked for notorious fashion houses such as Issey Miyake, and Givenchy. Earlier, he was working at Topman’s London Flagship store, where he was scouted.

Choi was interested in modeling and music from the beginning. As he grew up, he became obsessed with fashion. Choi mentioned that falling into modeling allowed him to understand it but it was hard to get into music. Though, one day, he really just picked up a mic and said let’s get it.

JNR was inspired to make a career in music due to one of his biggest inspirations, Diddy. Choi revealed that although modeling has been great for him, unfortunately, it has not allowed him the independence he desires. He further stated that modeling is not really up to you since in the end, it depends on how the casting director or designer feels.

Choi passionately showed an interest in music after listening to a combination album, Trilogy, by The Weekend. After listening to the album, the music inspired and captivated him more. Though, he didn’t record music until 2018. That year, he dropped his debut song, Moves.

Choi released his breakthrough song, To the Moon in November 2021. The song sampled Sam Tompkins’ cover of Bruno Mars’ song, Talking to the Moon, which was released in October 2021. Later on, the single was remixed by rappers, Fivio Foreign, Gunna, and Russ Millions in 2022.

Choi has also posted a four-second snip of the hit song on TikTok. Surprisingly the song became popular on the video-sharing platform and within a few days, it amassed over 20,000 views. Interestingly, the song was also tagged to over two million videos on the app, including clips from Steve Harvey, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

In March, the rising rapper signed a record deal with Epic Records and Black Butter Records. Both record label imprints under the Sony Music Entertainment umbrella. His affairs were handled by Black Butter Records in the U. K.

Choi is reportedly working on his second full-length project. The young rapper promises to drop his new project before the end of the year. Two weeks after he announced his record deal, his hit song, To The Moon reached Billboard Hot 100. With that, the single became his first entry on the chart.
