Michelle Branch was born on the 2nd of July, 1983 in Sedona, Arizona. She was born to parents, Peggy and David Branch. Her mother, who is of Dutch-Indonesian and French descent was born in the Netherlands. She grew up with an older-half brother, David, and a younger sister, Nicole.

Branch attended Northern Arizona University at eight years of age. She started singing when she was 3. At the University, she enrolled in voice lessons. Her parents also financed her independent album, Broken Bracelet, which include a set list of cover songs by singers, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, and Lisa Loeb. Branche caught the attention of the pop rock band, Hanson and record producer, Jeff Rabhan, after posting two of her tracks on the Rolling Stone website in December 1999. Following that, she got two gigs and opened for the rock band, Hanson in 2000.

Branch released and self-produced an album, Broken Bracelet in June 2000. She signed a record deal with Maverick Records in 2001. In August 2001, she released her major label debut studio album, The Spirit Room. The album included the hit song, Everywhere, which became a commercial success.

Her first album also won the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards Viewer’s Choice Award. In 2003, she released her second major label album, Hotel Paper. The album was certified Platinum and peaked at 2 on the Billboard 200. Branch started collaborating with Jessica Harp in 2005, and the duo was known as Cass County Homewreckers.

Then, she started dating a blues rock band, the Black Key’s drummer Patrick Carney. She met Patrick at a Grammy party in 2015. The duo began dating during the production of her third studio album, Hopeless Romantic. Michelle and her daughter later shifted into Patrick’s house in Nashville. In August 2018, the couple became parents of a son. They turned into a married couple on April 20, 2019.

Michelle became pregnant for the second time in 2020, but, she suffered a miscarriage. Then, she announced her pregnancy in August 2021 and gave birth to a third child, a daughter in February 2022. However, after a year, on August 11, 2022, she announced her separation from Patrick accusing him of infidelity. On the very next day, she was taken into custody on a domestic charge, where Carney accused her of slapping him over his alleged infidelity.

According to documents, the police were called on Thursday at around 2 am for a possible domestic disturbance. After the arrival of the police, she admitted to slapping Patrick in the face at least twice. However, Carney didn’t have any visible injuries.
