Nivea garnered some buzz after she appeared on the rapper, Mystikai’s hit song, Danger (Been So Long) in 2000. After that, she signed up with Jive Records and released her first solo song, Don’t Mess with the Radio. The song gained moderate success and peaked at 85 on the R&B list.

In September 2001, she released her self-titled debut album. At first, she released the album in Australia and Japan. Then, she dropped the album in the United States on September 25, 2001. Nivea released a big hit, Don’t Mess with My Man in August 2002 featuring Brian and Brandon Casey. The song received a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2003.

Nivea received further recognition after she released the album’s third song, Laundromat. The song became a bit hit and peaked at 20 on the R&B list. She started working on her second album after getting wide success from her debut album. Soon, she released a buzz song, You Wanna Touch Me which peaked at 86 on R&B.

Nivea was in a relationship with rapper, Lil Wayne in 2002. The pair became engaged on December 11, 2002. However, the rapper called off his engagement to Nivea in August 2003. Then, she married R&B singer, Terius “The-Dream” Nash in December 2004.

Nivea and The-Dream became parents of their daughter, Navy Talia Nash on May 10, 2005. The following year, they became parents of twin sons, Lond and Christian. In 2007, the couple parted ways through a divorce. Nivea said that her ex-husband wanted the divorce and it was not a mutual agreement. After separating from The Dream, she reunited with her ex-beau, Lil Wayne.
