Along with that, a 4-minute segment was captured in the hours after he killed his mother where he confesses the murder and shows the dead body of his mother. The following day, he packed his car with 3 guns, ammunition, camping supplies, 12 Molotov cocktails, and a map with directions to Rideau Cottage.

Ryan was reportedly driving to the east with a motive to kill Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. The crown prosecutor, Michaela Donnely revealed in the court that there was consensus Ryan was suffering from an intense period of clinical depression in the months after he killed his mother. The reports said that he was suffering from a cannabis use disorder. He had also stopped attending his classes at Simon Fraser University. Ryan even urges to commit violence and kill himself.

According to reports, he decided to kill his mom to spare her from seeing the violence he was going to commit. Ryan gets a life sentence for killing his mother in a court hearing that took place at British Columbia Supreme Court on September 21.
