Early Life
Shaquem Griffin was born on the 20th of July, 1995 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born to Tangie and Terry Griffin. He was born less than 2 minutes after his twin brother, Shaquill, who plays as a cornerback for the Jaguars. Griffin had an amniotic band syndrome which affected his left hand. He even tried to cut his hand off due to unbearable pain in his hand.
Griffin’s parents eventually scheduled an amputation the very next day. Surprisingly, he was able to continue sports without his left hand. He even competed in football, baseball, and track along with his twin brother. Griffin studied at Lakewood High School, where played safety.

In his senior year, he helped and led his team to reach the semi-finals of the 2012 Florida 5A regional. Later, he received the Second Team 5A All-State honor. Additionally, he earned the Tampa Bay Times Second Team All-Suncoast honors. In 2012, he competed in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game. Following year, he was selected for the 2013 U. S. Under-19 National Team by USA Football.
Griffin was rated a 3-star recruit prospect by ESPN and Rivals subsequently after landing on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays. Along with that, he was a 4-year letter earner in the track and field which includes the shot put, 4×100 relay, and discus. Afterward, the Tampa Bay Times named him the Track and Field Athlete of the Year in Pinellas County. Griffin and his twin brother were then offered football scholarships at the University of Central Florida. At that time, his brother, Shaquill had rejected offers from other teams such as the Miami Hurricanes.
Griffin played as a redshirt freshman in his second season. Earlier, he had a brief stint as a second-string player and later was demoted to a third-string player. Afterward, he was included in the scout team. He stayed at UCF a season longer than his brother, Shaquill, who was drafted by the Seahawks in the 2017 NFL Draft. On the other hand, he stayed on for his redshirt senior year at the University.
In March 2018, he competed in the NFL Scouting Combine after not receiving an invitation. During the time, he made headlines for running the 40-yard dash in the fastest time i. e. 4.38 seconds. Despite the good track record, he was not getting projected as a first-round pick. Then, he received an invitation to the 2018 NFL Draft. He eventually accepted the invitation on March 29, 2018. Griffin was the first one-handed player to be drafted into the NFL for which, he received extensive press and social media coverage.

Shaquem began his professional career in April 2018 after he was picked by the Seahawks in the fifth round. Thereafter, he reunited with his brother, Shaquill after being drafted by the Seahawks. Griffin played his first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts in August 2018. In his debut game, he led his team in tackles with 6 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles. He continued his good form and again led the team in tackles against the Oakland Raiders.
In September 2020, he was waived by the Seahawks and was signed to the Seahawk’s practice squad the next day. On September 26, he was elevated to the active roster against the Dallas Cowboys. However, after the game, he was reverted to the practice squad.
He was signed with the Miami Dolphins in July 2021. Nevertheless, he just played a month with the Dolphins and was waived in August 2021. Griffin announced his retirement on August 25 when he stated in The Players’ Tribune that he would be looking forward to helping others as part of the NFL Legends Community.
