Abrams was born in December 1973 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born to Robert and Carolyn Abrams. Stace grew up with six siblings. She spent her early childhood days in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her parents became Methodist ministers after moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1989. Later, the Abrams returned to Mississippi.

For her study, she joined Avondale High School and graduated as valedictorian in 1991. She served as a typist for a congressional campaign while in high school. In 1995, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College. Later, she attended the University of Texas and received a Master of Public Affairs degree in 1998. She also earned a J. D. from Yale Law School in 1999.

Stace Abrams started working as a tax attorney at the law firm, Sutherland Asbill & Brenan after graduating from law school. Then, she co-founded a financial services firm, NOW Corp. She is currently running a legal consulting firm, Sage Works. Stacy began her political career at 29 years of age in 2002. Back then, she was hired as a deputy city attorney for the City of Atlanta. Thereafter, she ran for the 84th district in the Georgia House of Representatives in 2006.

Abrams later ran in the Democratic Party primary election against Dexter Porter. She won the primary election receiving 51% of the vote. At the beginning of the 2007 session and 2013 sessions, she represented House District 84. In November 2010, she was elected as a minority leader over Virgil Fludd. As soon she took over the role, she cooperated with a Republican governor, Nathan Deal’s administration on reforming the HOPE Scholarship program.

In August 2017, she resigned from the General Assembly and focused on her gubernatorial campaign. In 2018, she ran for governor of Georgia. Then, Abrams ran against Stacey Evans in the Democratic primary. She got the victory in the Democratic nomination on May 22 and became the first Black woman in the United States to be a major party’s nominee for governor. Unfortunately, she lost the election by 54,723 votes on November 6, 2018. After that, Abrams made an announcement that she was entering her campaign.
