Stevie J was born on 2nd November 1971 in Utica New York. He was born to parents, Penny Daniels and Moses Jordan. Stevie spent his childhood days in two cities in New York, Buffalo, and Rochester. Stevie has a brother named Mike J. He and his brother were abandoned by his mother. Afterward, his father raised him and his brother.

Stevie started off his career by performing as the bass guitar for the R&B quartet, Jodeci. He also worked and appeared on the R&B quartet’s 1995 album, The Show, The After Party, The Hotel. Likewise, he performed as a member of the R&B/hip-hop collective, Swing Mob. Then, he was signed with Bad Boy. Even after joining Bad Boy, he continuously worked with Sing’s younger brother, Dalvin DeGrate, and produced and sang on his solo debut album titled “Met.A.Mor.Phic.
Stevie became popular after he started working as an in-house producer and writer for Bad Boy Records, Hitmen in the 1990s. At that time, he worked with the label owner, Sean “Puffy” Combs, and produced several Bad Boy projects including the first album of R&B quartet 112. Along with that, he also produced the R&B quartet 112’s lead song, Only You featuring rapper, The Notorious B.I.G.
Stevie also produced several records on the late rapper, Notorious B.I.G.’s second and final studio album, Life After Death. Later on, he produced Sean Combs’ album, No Way Out, which included the Notorious B.I.G’s tribute single, I’ll Be Missing You. Stevie also won a Grammy for his production work on Combs’ album.
In addition to producing several Bad Boy projects, he has produced for notable record artists including Mariah Carey. He earned a nomination for a Grammy for his contribution to Carey’s 1997 album, Butterfly. Along with that, Stevie has produced several songs from the album such as “Honey”, “Breakdown”, “Babydoll”, and “Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)”.
The three songs titled Honey, No Money Mo Problems and I’ll Be Missing You piked a top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 from June 14 to September 1997. Additionally, he is also credited for his co-writing work for the rapper, Eve’s 2001 hit song, Let Me Blow Ya Mind. In 2012, he appeared as one of the primary cast members on the VH1 reality series, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. In the series, he was featured in a love triangle with his new girlfriend, Joseline Hernandez, and his then-girlfriend, Mimi Faust.
For the first three seasons of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, he appeared as a supporting cast member. Stevie and Hernandez became a popular couple in the hip-hop world since the reality series premiered in 2012. They also made cameo appearances in many music videos including “I Deserve It” and “Hail Mary”. Stevie has likewise starred in Love & Hip Hop’s spin-off shows such as Leave It to Stevie and Stevie J & Joseline: Go Hollywood.

Stevie J was married to singer and songwriter, Faith Evans. Their wedding ceremony took place on July 17, 2018, in Las Vegas. After three years of marriage, he files for divorce from Evans in November 2021. Previously, he was romantically linked to actress, Alex Martin, rapper, Eve, and reality star, Joseline Hernandez.
Stevie has 6 children from five different women and has a grandson named Zion. He was sentenced to 3 years of probation for non-payment of child support obligations in February 2017. At that time, Stevie was ordered to pay $1,304,835 in restitution fees.
