Derek Wolfe was born in Lisbon, Ohio, on February 24, 1990. He spent his childhood days in rural Negley, Ohio near Pennsylvania. Regarding his education, he attended Beaver Local High School and played high school football. He was a standout at high school and became the only player in the school’s history to be drafted by the NFL.

Derek Wolfe played four years at Cincinnati, accumulating 162 total tackles. He was named Co-Big East Defensive Player of the year as a senior. Wolfe began his professional career after the Denver Broncos selected him in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Denver Broncos signed Wolfe for a four-year-$5.20 million contract in May 2012. He played his first NFL game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his first NFL game, he came out with three tackles and a sack for a loss of nine yards.

At the end of his rookie season, he finished with 40 tackles, 6 sacks, and 2 passes defended. He had a tough sophomore season where he suffered a spinal cord injury in a preseason game against the Seahawks. Subsequently, he suffered a seizure on the bus ride heading to the airport for the Kansas City Chiefs matchup.

Wolfe had the best season of his career in 2015 where he established himself as one of the best-run stuffers. In March 2020, he signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens worth $3 million. He recorded his first sack as a Raven against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15. On March 17, 2021, he agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $12 million with the Ravens.

However, he was placed on injured reserve after a hip injury during practice on October 2, 2021. After three weeks, he was designated to return to practice from injured reserve. In November 2021, the head coach of the Ravens, John Harbaugh, said he would remain out for the rest of the season.

In June 2022, Wolfe was released from the Ravens after he and the team came to terms with an injury settlement. He officially announced his retirement from professional football on July 29, 2022.
