Early life

Emma Grede was born in the year 1982 in London, England. She was born to a Jamaican/Trinidadian father and an English mother. Her mom, Jenny-Lee Findlay worked for a multinational investment company, Morgan Stanley. She grew up with three younger sisters in the Plaistow neighborhood of London.

Emma studied at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. However, she dropped out of college after she secured an internship at the high-end luxury fashion house, Gucci.

Initially, she worked as a producer at the fashion show and event company, Inca Productions. Then, she founded and became a CEO of a London-based talent management agency, Independent Talent Brand (ITB) Worldwide. She left the company after the agency was acquired by the public relations agency, Rogers & Cowan. In 2015, she came up with an idea for a denim company, which she later proposed to socialite and businesswoman, Kris Jenner.

Grede explained to Jenner that she wanted to form a company in a partnership deal with her daughter, Khloe Kardashian. In 2016, she and Kardashian eventually launched a women’s clothing company, Good American. The company mainly focused on size inclusivity and body positivity, where Grede lead the company as a CEO.

The company, Good American expanded its operations from strictly selling denim jeans. Later, the company includes activewear, swimwear, dresses, tops, and shoes in its line. In addition, the company also created the size 15 so that they accommodate more body types. The business of the company reached its peak from the very first day as they were able to collect sales revenue of one million dollars.

In 2019, she founded a shapewear brand, Skims with her husband, Jens Grede. She became the company’s chief product officer. Along with that, she also founded a brand of plant-based cleaning and self-care products, Safely with Chrissy Teigen and Kris Jenner. The brand was launched in March 2021. Besides her entrepreneurial venture, she also appeared as a guest shark on Season 13’s first episode of the reality series, Shark Tank in 2021.

As they spent more time together, they turned their professional relationship into a love relationship. They ultimately turned into a married couple on July 28, 2008.
