Eric Montross is a former professional basketball player from Indiana. He began his professional career after being selected by the Chicago-based professional basketball team in the 1994 MLB draft. In 1990, he was chosen as a McDonald’s All-American while playing for Lawrence North High School. After retirement, Montross has been a radio analyst on UNC men’s basketball games since 2015.

Eric Montross was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 23, 1971. Both his father and grandfather had played for the University of Michigan’s basketball team. In the 1960s, his dad was a teammate of former professional basketball star, Cazzie Russell.

Regarding his education, he studied at Lawrence North High School. Montross was named to the USA Today All-USA first Team while playing for the high school team. Then, he committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. He also played baseball in high school.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t maintain the same level of production. At one time, the Boston Celtics selected him over talented basketball stars such as Jalen Rose, Eddie Jones, and Aaron McKie. He was waived by the Celtics in 1996 and joined the Dallas Mavericks.

Montross played with the Mavericks for a year until 1997. After that, he joined the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. He played with the Pistons for four years until 2001. Following that, the Toronto Raptors signed him for a year. The Raptors waived him in February 2004.

Eric announced his retirement due to a foot injury on August 26, 2003. After retirement, he began working as a radio analyst at UNC men’s basketball games. Montross has also co-founded an organization, Vaccine Ambassadors with the aim of distributing vaccines all over the world.

In addition to that, he also serves as a principal gift fundraiser at the University of North Carolina. Moreover, he has raised more than a million dollars for the UNC Children’s hospital in 1994. During his career, he appeared in 465 games and averaged 4.5 points, 0.6 blocks, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game.
