Erislandy Santoya was born on April 11 in the year 1983 in Guantanamo, Cuba. He was raised by his grandmother along with his younger sister. Lara never met his father and his mother’s name is Marisol.

Erislandy failed to impress the world while he was an amateur. He faced a defeat to two-time world champion, Lorenzo Aragon four times in 2003 and 2004. Lara did get success after Lorenzo stepped down in 2005 and bested his countryman, Yudel Johnson Cedeno.

Lara earned a TKO victory against Mexico’s Alfredo Angulo in June 2013. Angulo refused to fight in round ten after Lara hit straight around his right eye with a left hand. He fought Austin Trout in December 2013, and in the end, he retained his WBA interim super welterweight title via unanimous decision. Erislandy defended his WBA (Regular) super welterweight title in June 2015. Additionally, he won over Delvin Rodriguez for the vacant IBO title.

Lara returned to the ring on Saturday, May 28 to fight against the huge underdog, Spike O’Sullivan. He stopped Sullivan at the start of the eighth round. Before the end of the seven rounds, he hurt O’Sullivan badly with his left hand. At the beginning of the eighth round, he quickly pounced on him and hurt O’Sullivan again with another straight left hand. With that, he retained his secondary WBA middleweight title with 29-3-3, 17 KOs.
