Early life
Jim Rome was born on October 14 in the year 1964 in Los Angeles, California. He studied at Calabasas High School in 1982. Then he attended the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Rome earned a degree in Communications in 1987.

Jim initially worked at the college radio station, KCSB-FM while studying at UCSB. He served as a sports director for one quarter at the radio station. After that, he started working as a traffic reporter at the news station, KTMS. In the summer of 1987, he became a sports talk host. In late 1990, he began serving at the San Diego-based XTRA Sports 690. At that time, he introduced his own show called “The Jim Rome Show” or “The Jungle”.
In Spring 1994, the show’s production shifted to a studio in Los Angeles. The time was also changed to 9 am Pacific/12 pm Eastern. In 1996, the show was syndicated through the Premiere Radio Networks. In January 2013, the program was brought by the CBS Sports Radio network. The production facility of the show moved to the Sherman Oaks-based Premiere Radio building. In January 2018, the show moved to a custom-built studio in Costa Mesa as a part of the beginning of TV simulcasting.
The TV show was referred to as if it originated in Southern California. However, the show received criticism for showing the downtown Los Angeles skyline footage and using Southern California terminology. The popular radio show has a huge fan base in both Canada and United States. It has approximately 2.5 million audiences in both countries. In addition to hosting the radio show, he went on to release an album titled “Welcome to the Jungle in 1998.
Rome returned to ESPN after he interviewed the executive producer of programming and production, Mark Shapiro in early 2003. Within a few months of the interview, he was officially retired as a host of the radio show. He received notoriety in 1994 after the incident took place on his ESPN2 show “Talk2” where the NFL quarterback, Jim Everett was a guest on his show.
In April 2012, he began to host a TV sports talk show named Rome on the CBS Sports Network. He hosted the sports talk show until March 2015. At the same time, he hosted the monthly TV sports/entertainment talk show called “Jim Rome on Showtime”. Rome has also made a few cameo appearances in several movies like “Space Jam” and “Two for the Monkey”. Rome appeared as a host of the memorial service for the football player, Pat Tillman in May 2004. Jim was elected to the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in January 2006.

Jim Rome is married to his wife named Janet Rome. Together they share two sons named Jake and Logan. Along with his wife, Janet, he owns Jungle Racing, which has campaigned the top racehorses. They recently campaigned the champion Shared Belief which is considered to be a favorite in the $1.5 million Charles Town Classic Stakes on Saturday.
