Early life

Kevin Kreider was born on August 21 in the year 1983 in Seoul, South Korea. He was adopted by white parents from Pennsylvania when he was 3. He grew up in a middle-class family where he always viewed crossing $100 thousand as a marker for success. Kevin is a graduate of Temple University where he majored in science. He also studied acting at the Maggie Flanigan studio.

Kevin revealed that he was bullied for having a skinny figure and for his Asian heritage during a TED talk, Redefining Asian Masculinity in 2018. The TED talk eventually went viral. Kevin thought of starting a new life as a model after being inspired by the models, Godfrey Gao and Daniel Liu. The two models were the world’s first Asian male supermodels. However, the plan didn’t work out well and he had a financial crisis. Due to his low financial status, he even worked in catering.

Kevin later became interested in acting and took acting classes. Though, he was still struggling with his low income. At that time, he relied fully on credit cards through which he would cover his tuition fees and manage food for everyday survival. Eventually, he went into $26,000 in debt on credit cards. Due to stress, he started losing his hair, which later boosted him to work on his mental health.

In 2012, Kevin booked his first big commercial and was able to clear the debt of $5,000. He cleared all the balance after moving back to Philadelphia. In 2014, he moved to Los Angeles where he met and build connections with entrepreneur, Kelly Mi Li, hairstylist, Guy Tang, and a real estate heir, Kane Lim. He used to live in an LA apartment at that time where he paid $1,700 monthly rent.
