Early life & Amateur Career

Kurt Kitayama was born in January 1993 in Chico, California. He was born to Richard Clifford and Rumiko Kitayama. Kurt spent his early days in California and grew up with his older brother, Daniel. For his study, he attended Chico High School and graduated in 2011.

While in high school, he was playing as the starting point guard on the high school’s basketball team. He was also the Senior co-captain who helped and led his team to get the 2011 California Northern Section Title with a 27-2 record. He made 6 assists and scored 31 points in the Championship game, where the Chico high school team got victory over Pleasant Valley High School.

Kitayama competed as an amateur golfer at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in 2009. There, he finished tied for 3rd in the 15-17 age category. Then, The Junior Golf Association of Northern California appointed him the 2009 Player of the Year. Following high school, he joined the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2011.

Kurt started playing as a professional golfer in 2015. As a professional, he mostly competed on the Web.com Tour in 2016 and 2017. However, he didn’t get huge success on his initial professional journey. At that time, he was ranked 1174 in the world’s ranking. Then he mostly competed on the Asian Tour in 2018.

The same year in 2018, he got a victory at a single Asian Development Tour event. While competing on the Asian Tour, he was able to get some good finishes on the New Zealand Open, the Royal Cup, and the Asian-Pacific Diamond Cup Golf.

Kitayama competed in the European Tour Q-School in November 2018. There, he finished tired for 3rd place and secured a place on the 2019 European Tour. In late 2018, he competed in the Afrasian Bank Mauritius Open and got a win by two strokes. After the victory, he made placed in the top 200 of the world rankings. Then, he got a win at the Oman Open and became the fastest golfer to get two wins in the European Tour History in March 2019. He made the record for the fastest player in only his 11th career appearance.

Kurt finished 23rd in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals and earned his PGA Tour card in September 2021. After 5 months, he had his best finish in a PGA Tour event at The Honda Classic where he finished 3rd place. Kurt continued his good form and recorded a T2 finish at the Mexican Open in May 2022.
