King was born on March 11, 1996, in Greenville, South Carolina. He was born to Marvin King, a famous blues guitarist in South Carolina. Similarly, his grandfather was a known regionally popular musician. Regarding his education, he got his GED after dropping out of high school in his junior year.

Marcus King was very young when he started playing guitar. He began playing at shows with his dad when he was around eight. He was 11 when he contributed to one of his father’s albums. When he reached his teenage, he started playing out with his own band.

King and his band would juggle club gigs at night. He eventually left high school chasing his music career. Instead, he took an academic approach to music by studying his favorite guitarists including Duane Allman, the co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band, Albert King, B. B. King, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings.

Marcus also studied jazz theory and jazz performance at the Greenville Fine Arts Center. In 2014, he received recognition after a video of him playing at Norman’s Guitars received millions of views on YouTube. After that, he announced his first solo album, El Dorado in 2019.

The Black Key’s Dan Auerbach produced King’s debut album at his Easy Eye Studio. The album was released by Fantasy Records on January 17, 2020. After he released the album, it was declared as a definite high point of 2020 by the news agency, Associated Press. Following his debut album, he dropped his second album, Young Blood, on August 26, 2022.

Dan Auerbach also produced his second album. The album received a good response and peaked a No. 1 spot on Top Blues Albums Chart on Billboard. The music and entertainment magazine, Billboard’s Melinda Newman also called the album a staggeringly confident work.

King has also uploaded videos on his self-titled YouTube account since June 2012. He shared his first video on June 22, 2012, a live performance with his band at Chicora Alley in downtown Greenville. After three years, he uploaded his second video on YouTube which was a lyric video of the song, I Won’t be Here.

In March 2016, he uploaded a video performing his live song, Dyin’. As of now, the video has garnered over 1.8 million views. King dropped the official music video of his song, The Well from his debut solo album on November 12, 2019. The music video received overwhelming responses and to date, it has garnered over 3.9 million views.

Marcus dropped the live video performing the song, It’s Too Late from his second album on August 26, 2022. After that, he uploaded the official audio version of other songs from his second album. He uploaded his recent video on YouTube on February 8, 2023, which was an acoustic video of the song titled Hard Working Man.

Marcus King married Briley Hussey in a lavish ceremony on February 19, 2023, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. The new bride, Hussey mentioned that Marcus often calls her little bird since the night they met. Considering that, during their wedding ceremony, Leah Blevins performed her song, Little Bird starting with the lyrics, We got married on a Sunday.

Marcus stated that he wanted his wedding ceremony to be simple and elegant. Though, he wanted his reception to be the complete opposite with many colors, fun linens, candles, and lights. At the reception, the newlywed couple sat with their crowd of adoring guests and enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Chef’s Market.
