Casey then attended Arizona State University with a golf scholarship. As an amateur golfer, he won 3 consecutive Pac-12 Championships in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Casey competed on the European Tour in May 2001. There, he recorded a win at the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship. At the end of Season 22, he earned the order of merit. Likewise, he is the recipient of the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. Following that, he got the victory in the Benson and Hedges International Open and the ANZ Championship in 2003.
