Early life and Career Beginnings

Viktor Hovland was born on September 18, 1997, in Oslo, Norway. He studied at Oklahoma State University and played college golf for the University’s team. Viktor has been in the best form since his amateur career days. He registered the victory at the Norweigan Amateur Golf Championship in 2014. 

Victor then competed in the 2018 U. S. Amateur. His hard work and dedication paid him well in the end as he was able to win the 2018 U. S. Amateur. Following the victory, he became the first Norwegian player ever to hold that title.

After that, he subsequently received invitations to compete at other championship tournaments such as the 2019 U. S. Open, the 2019 Masters Tournament, and the 2019 Open Championship. Before that, he competed in the 2018 Emirates Australian Open, where he finished at 13th place.

Hovland rose to No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after finishing 3 under par in a tie for 32nd in the 2019 Masters Tournament. After that, he competed in the 2019 U. S. Open, and there he finished at 12th place scoring the lowest 72-hole score of 280, which was the lowest score by an amateur in the U. S. Open. In the same season, he won low amateur honors at the Master’s Tournament.

Following the 2019 U. S. Open, he started playing as a professional golfer. In June 2019, he played his first professional game at the Travelers Championship. Then in August 2019, he played in the Albertsons Boise Open, where he tied for second place. Following good results in Albertsons, he secured a PGA Tour card for the 2019-20 season.

Hovland started off the year 2020 playing at the Puerto Rico Open in February. He was able to win the title and became the first Norweigan to get the victory on the PGA Tour. After that in December, he got his second PGA Tour victory at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. He won the professional golf tournament by birdieing the 72nd hole. In June, he competed on the European Tour at the BMW International Open. In the end, he lifted the championship title and became the first Norwegian to get victory on the European Tour. 

Viktor on September then played on the European team and competed in the 2021 Ryder Cup. Unfortunately, the European team was defeated by the U. S. team with a score of 19-9, and individually, he tied his Sunday Singles match over Collin Morikawa with a score of 0-3-2. In November, he competed at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba and was successful to retain the title once again after winning by four strokes. 

Hovland’s next victory came at the Hero World Challenge, where he finished at 18 under par. He won the championship title after hitting the back-to-back eagles on holes 14 and 15 in the final round. Following the victory, he was given a new nickname as the Resort King of golf. Hovland is currently targeting his sixth professional victory at the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.
