Early life

Lucas Herbert was born on December 5 of the year 1995 in Bendigo, Australia. He was raised by his parents, Lyndon and Meredith Herbert. At a very young age, he became interested in playing golf. Lucas used to visit the fairways of Nangar Park Golf Club with a dream of winning tournaments on the world stage in the future. He eventually kicked off his junior golf career at the Neangar Park Golf Club.

Herbert played as an amateur golfer at the Lexus of Blackburn Heritage Classic. However, he couldn’t make it to the next round after losing in a playoff. The following year in 2014, he represented Australia at the Eisenhower Trophy. The Australian team eventually finished the tie for the sixth place. Individually, he tied for the second-best just three strokes behind Jon Rahm.

Lucas began playing golf professionally in late 2015. As a professional golfer, he mostly competed on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Lucas competed at the Isuzu Queensland Open in late 2016, where he finished as runner-up behind amateur, Brett Coletta. In 2017, he competed at the New South Wales Open and finished again as runner-up. Then, he had some good finishes at other golf tournaments such as the Australian PGA Championship and the Emirates Australian Open.

Lucas started playing in the European Tour through sponsor exemptions in 2018. While competing in the Race to Dubai, he finished 47th and eventually ended up being in the world top-100 at the end of 2018. Likewise, he competed in the Portugal Masters where he finished as runner-up. Lucas later competed at the Sky Sports British Masters where he finished in third place.

Herbert continued with his best form and produced a good result at the SMBC Singapore Open. His worthy performance at the SMBC helped him to get entry into the 2018 Open Championship. In the golf tournament, he made the cut and subsequently qualified for the U. S. Open in 2018. However, there he missed the cut. In January 2019, he competed at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and finished in 7th place. After a good result, he reached a 73 in the world rankings, which was his career-high ranking.

Lucas registered his first European Tour victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January 2020. Following the victory, he finished as runner-up in the New Zealand Open in March 2020. Afterward, he appeared at the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open in July 2021. There he finished 3 strokes ahead of Swedish golfer, Rikard Karlberg and maintained the lead during the entire competition. The good result in the tournament helped him qualify for The Open Championship.

Herbert then appeared at the Abrdn Scottish Open. After that, he entered the top 50 for the first time in the ranking of Official World Golf Ranking. Herbert then secured a place in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals and earned a PGA Tour card for the 2021-22 season by finishing inside the top 25. Lucas eventually registered his first PGA Tour win at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in October 2021.
