Early life and Career Beginnings
Tony’s real name is Milton Pouha Finau and was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 14, 1989. He belongs to the Tongan and Saloam descent. Tony has a brother named Gipper who was about to become a professional golf player but couldn’t succeed even after making a cut in the Utah EnergySolutions Championship. He is a cousin of former NFL star, Haloti Ngata, and NBA player, Jabari Parker.
Tony decided to be a golf player from the beginning, and to turn his dream into reality he has really worked hard. In 2006, he was able to get victory in the Utah State Amateur Championship by defeating Daniel Summerhays. Tony is also an amazing basketball player and he even received a scholarship offer in basketball, but he chose to play baseball in the end.

At the young age of 17, he turned professional and started competing on mini-tours like the NGA Hooters Tour, Gateway Tour, and National Pro Tour.
Alongside his brother Gipper, he competed on the Golf Channel’s reality TV program “The Big Break” in 2009. There, he finished at a second position on Big Break Disney Golf. In 2013, he competed on the PGA Tour Canada and made 7 cuts in eight starts. That year, he earned his 2014 Web.com Tour card after finishing T-3 at the 2013 Web.com Tour qualifying school.
Tony earned his first title at the Stonebrae Classic in August 2014. Due to his good form in the regular season and Web.com Tour Finals, he earned his PGA Tour card for the 2014-15 season.
Finau registered his first PGA Tour victory at the Puerto Rico Open in March 2016. He won the tournament in a sudden-death playoff with a birdie on 3rd extra hole against Steve Marino.
In 2017, he chose to play at the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play rather than defending his Puerto Rico title. However, he was not able to get entrance at the Match Play after falling short behind two players. In the 2018 PGA Tour season, he ranked 6th in the season-long FedEx Cup and earned more than $5,600,000 with 11 top-10 finishes.
Tony won over $1,000,000 after finishing second in the WGC-HSBC Championships where he lost a playoff against professional golfer, Xander Schauffele in October 2018. In April 2019, he made a place in the final of the Master’s Tournament along with Tiger Woods and Francesco Molinari, and in the end, he tied for 5th place.
Tony competed at the 2019 Presidents Cup in December 2019 playing on the U. S. team and there, his team won 16-14. In February 2020, he lost over Webb Simpson in a sudden-death playoff at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Finau came up strong in the 2021 season as he registered a victory at the 2021 Norther Trust and finished second at the Saudi International. He recently played in the 2021 Ryder Cup with the U. S. team, where his team won with a score of 19-9. However, he could not make it further in singles as he lost to Ian Poulter with a score of 1-2-0.

Tony Finau is a married man who tied the knot with a lady named Alayna Galea’I. Together they share four kids named Jraice, Tony, Leilene Aiaga, and Sage. During the birth of his fourth kid, he missed a chance to play along with Tiger Woods.
Alayna most of the time comes to support Tony in half of his tournaments, and most of the time, she would be looking after the children. Likewise, his kids come to see his game in nearly eight tournaments a year.
