Early life and Amateur Career

Jon Rahm was born on November 10, 1994, in Barrika, Biscay, Spain. He studied at Arizona State University receiving a golf scholarship. Rahm received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University. While playing college golf, he won 11 tournaments. He is in fact the second golfer in school history behind Phil Mickelsons’ 16 collegiate wins. 

As an amateur golfer, he became the first golfer to receive the Ben Hogan Award twice. During his junior year, he participated in the 2015 Phoenix Open, where he finished tied for fifth place. In April 2015, he was ranked No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. At first, he remained in the No. 1 slot for 25 consecutive weeks. After he regained the first position, he held it for an additional 35 weeks. He became the first golfer to hold the all-time record for a total of 60 weeks. 

Rahm made a place in the 2015 U. S. Amateur while being No. 1 in the world. However, in the tournament, he failed to win the title after losing to Derek Bard. Then, he competed in the Mark H. McCormack Medal. In the end, he was able to hold the championship title. After a win, he qualified for the following year’s Open Championship and U. S. Open. He finished his amateur career finishing a tie for 23rd place at the 2016 U. S. Open.

Rahm turned professional after the U. S. Open. He played his first professional game at the Quicken Loans National. He finished tied for third place in the professional golf tournament. Even though he finished third, he was able to regain entry to The Open. Then he competed at the RBC Canadian Open, where he finished tie runner-up. After that, he secured Special Temporary Member status for the remaining season, and as a non-member, he earned enough points to grab a PGA Tour card for 2017.

Rahm register a win at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January 2017. Following the victory, he reached No. 46 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Rahm finished as a runner-up in his second WGC event at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. At the final event of the 2017 European Tour season, he won the DP World Tour Championship Dubai. He was subsequently named the European Tour Rookie of the Year. 

Jon continued his excellent form in 2018 and won the Open de Espana in April 2018, and the limited field Hero World Challenge tournament in December 2018. His first PGA Tour wins in 2019 came at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which he won along with his partner, Ryan Palmer. Then, in July 2019, he won the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open. He registered his second win at Open de Espana in October 2019. Rahm won two tournaments in 2020, the Memorial Tournament in July 2020 and the BMW Championship in August 2020. 

Rahm was made to forcefully withdraw his name from the Memorial Tournament in June 2021 due to a positive COVID-19 test. Following a month in July, he finished a tie for third at the Open Championship. He was again tested positive for COVID-19 due to which he was forced to withdraw his name from the 2020 Summer Olympics.

In 2022, he competed at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, where he broke the original PGA Tour to par with the scoring record of 31 under par. Despite the best effort, he lost the tournament to Cameron Smith, who finished on 34 under par.

Jon Rham is married to a lady named Kelley with whom he shares a son, Kepa, who was born in 2021. Both have studied at Arizona State University, where Kelley used to compete on the track & field team. She is also a capable tennis player and had played a tennis match with Jon on one occasion.

After graduation, the pair lived together for 2 years and tied the knot in December 2019. Their wedding ceremony took place in Bilbao, Spain near Rahm’s hometown. Currently, the couple resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.
