Early life

Morikawa was born on February 6, 1997, in Los Angeles, California. He belongs of Chinese-Japanese descent. Collin studied at La Canada High School in Los Angeles County. Then in 2015, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he won the 2019 Pac-12 Championship. He also registered the win at various other championship tournaments such as the Sunnehanna Amateur, Western Junior, Northeast Amateur, and the Trans-Mississippi Amateur. 

Morikawa was one of the members of the Arnold Palmer Cup team, the Eisenhower Trophy team, and the Walker Cup, team. He remained No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for consecutive 3 weeks in May 2018. Collin received his University graduation from the University of California. Collin started playing golf professionally in 2019 and played his first game at the 2019 RBC Canadian Open. There, he tied for 14th place. Then, in July 2019, he competed at the 3M Open where he tied for second. After finishing for fourth place at the John Deeree Classic, he secured PGA Tour membership for the 2019-20 season. He registered his first PGA Tour victory at the Barracuda Championship. 

Morikawa played his first PGA Tournament of 2020 on June 14 competing at the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge. There, he tied for the lead after 72 holes. Then he went on to compete at the Travelers Championship, where he missed his first cut on the PGA Tour title on June 26.

He won his second PGA Tour title on July 12 at the Workday Charity Open where he defeated Justin Thomas in a playoff. Morikawa continued his excellent form in 2020 and won the 2020 PGA Championship on August 9. After winning the championship he became the third-youngest golfer to grab the PGA Championship title at age 23. 

Collin started off the year 2021 by winning the 2021 WGC-Workday Championship on February 28. The championship was held at the Concessional Golf Club in Florida, where he defeated Billy Horschel, Brooks Koepka, and Viktor Hovland by three strokes. In July, he registered another win at the 2021 Open Championship. He won the championship title over Jordan Spieth by two strokes. With the win, he became the first player to win two majors in 8 or fewer starts since Bobby Jones in 1926. 

Collin then competed at the Olympic Games in August, where he finished in a tie for 3rd place. Following a month in September, he played in the 2021 Ryder Cup for the U. S. team. His individual score was 3-0-1 and tied a single match over Viktor Hovland. On the other hand, the U. S. team got victory with a score of 19-9. In November, Collin registered the win at the European Tour’s season. With the win, he became the first American to get victory at the Race to Dubai.

Collin Morikawa is currently engaged to his girlfriend, Catherine Zhu. The pair announced their engagement in November 2021. Collin met Catherine for the first time in 2017.

His fiancee, Zhu is also a good golfer who played on the collegiate team for 4 years. She also played as a division one player. Over the four years, he has regularly praised his lady love mentioning that she has been very important in his life after his first Major victory at the 2020 PGA Championship.
