Early life and Amateur Career

Horschel was born William John Horschel on December 7, 1986, in Grant, Florida. He was born to parents Billy Horschel Sr. And Kathy Horschel. Billy attended Bayside High School. Then, he earned an athletic scholarship and studied at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Horschel played on the men’s golf team at Florida University and competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from 2006 to 2009. He has been the Southeastern Conference (SEC) player of the year twice in 2007 and 2009. Horschel earned a University graduation degree from Florida University in 2009.

As an amateur golfer, he represented U. S. at the Palmer Cup in 2007 and 2008. In the victorious 2007 Walker Cup team, he scored a 3-1 record. Previous to that, he won the individual medalist honor at the 2006 U. S. Amateur. At the golf event, he shot a 2-day score of 138 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club. Even though he cleared the first round, he failed the clear the third round of match play. Then, he competed in the 2006 U. S. Open. However, later he missed the cut at the event.

Horschel started playing as a professional golfer in 2009. He earned a 2010 PGA Tour card through qualifying school in December 2009. However, he suffered a wrist injury due to which he was limited to four PGA Tour events that year. He was also not able to make the cut in any of the golf events. Through qualifying school, he earned his Tour card again in December 2010.

Horschel was able to make the cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in February 2011. Then he competed at the 2012 True South Classic where he finished third. Horschel subsequently finished 147th on the 2012 money list.

Horschel then earned PGA Tour Card for 2013 and started the season by making the cut in every golf tournament. He finished at top-10 for three consecutive times before getting a victory at the 2013 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He made 6 consecutive birdies in the 4th round to get the victory over D. A. Points by one stroke. After the win, he moved to 3rd place in the FedEx Cup Standings. Horschel also made it through the U. S. Open after securing the 49th spot in the Official World Golf Ranking.

From June 2012 to April 2013, he led the PGA Tour in consecutive cuts. He finally missed the cut after competing at The Players Championship. Horschel played his first major tournament as a professional golfer in the 2013 U. S. Open. At the end of his first major professional event, he finished T4. His ranking went up to 34 from 49 after a good performance in the U. S. Open.

Billy secured his second PGA Tour victory at the 2014 BMW Championship. After the victory, he moved to 23rd in the World rankings. Following a week, he got the victory in Tour Championship. He was ranked 14th in the Official World Golf Ranking after the victory. Horschel claimed the AT&T Byron Nelson title in May 2017 after a victory over Jason Day.

Billy then competed at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his golf partner, Scott Piercy in April 2018. In March 2021, he claimed the title of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play where he defeated Scottie Scheffler in the final. The golf title win was his first-ever World Golf Championship victory. Horschel got the victory at the BMW PGA Championship in September 2021 and earned his second European Tour win. He secured his seventh PGA Tour title at the Memorial Tournament in June 2022.

Billy was reportedly having some struggles in his marriage life. He hinted about the private struggle after winning the AT&T Byron Nelson Tournament in 2017. Brittany later clarified the reason for their struggling marriage life through a tweet. She stated in a tweet that she was getting treatment last year for alcoholism.
