Skylar Diggins Smith is an American professional basketball player. She is best known for playing in WNBA for the Dallas Wings and the Phoenix Mercury. Skylar was selected in the 2013 WNBA draft by the Tulsa Shock. She averaged a state-best 29 points in each game in her senior year.
Skylar Diggins Smith was born on the 2nd of August, 1990 in South Bend, Indiana. She was born to Renee Scott and Tige Diggins. Skylar grew up with four siblings; three brothers and a younger sister. She played softball in her early days.
Skylar attended Washington High School, where she was a four-year varsity basketball letter winner. While in high school, she led her team, the Panthers into a state championship game. Skylar has the third-highest girls’ scoring total in the history of Indiana with an average score of 25.9 points in each game.
Diggins scored 24 points while competing in the 2009 WBCA High School All-America Games. Besides being excellent in sports, she was a brilliant student. She earned High Academic Honors as a senior.
Skylar was the fourth Indiana who joined the Irish roster as a freshman in the 2009-10 season. She started in 30 games out of ND’s 35 games. Skylar claimed national prominence after finishing the regular season first in her sophomore year. In her Junior season, she started in all 39 games and scored an average career-high 16.8 points. Skylar was named a unanimous selection to the Big East all-First team at the end of the regular season.

Diggins began her professional career after she was picked by the Tulsa Shock in the 2013 WNBA Draft. She averaged 8.5 points in each game and was named to the All-Rookie Team. In the 2014 WNBA season, she had a breakout year. Subsequently, she was named a WNBA All-Star and voted as a starter. Though, she suffered a torn ACL injury and returned for the 2016 season.
After the injury, she played her first game on May 21, 2016. When she came back, the Tulsa Shock was relocated and renamed the Dallas Wings. She had also signed a multi-year contract with the Wings. Throughout the season, she played 27 games and scored 13.1 points on average in each game. Skylar scored a new career-high of 35 points in June 2018 over the Indiana Fever.
Smith opted to stay out of the entire season in 2019 as she had given birth to her first child. At the end of the 2019 season, she confirmed through Twitter that she played the entire 2018 season being pregnant. In addition, she mentioned that she took her time off from basketball as she was not happy with the Dallas Wings due to postpartum depression. Diggins eventually announced in January 2020 that she would not be returning and playing for the Dallas Wings.
Skylar was subsequently acquired by the Phoenix Mercury in February 2020. She made her return in July 2020 and scored 14 points along with six assists in a 99 to 76 loss against the Las Vegas Aces. Skylar scored a season-high 33 points against the Connecticut Sun in September 2020. According to the Phoenix Mercury, Skylar would miss the final 2 regular season games this season. Her contract has also been suspended by the Mercury.

Skylar Diggins Smith is married to her longtime boyfriend, Daniel Smith. She got engaged to Daniel in June 2016 and turned into a married couple in May 2017. Her husband is also a former basketball player, who played as a wide receiver for Notre Dame. The pair had their first kid in April 2019.
