Abraham Ancer was born on the 27th of February, 1991 in McAllen, Texas. He spent his childhood days growing up in Reynosa, Mexico. Ancer was born to Abraham Ancer Sr. and Maria Veronica Sagastegui. Both his parents are Mexican natives. He lost his father due to heart troubles in January 2014.

Ancer was taught to play golf by his father at the Club Campestre de Reynosa. He studied at Sharyland High School. Then, he joined Odessa College and played college golf. Ancer continued to play golf while attending the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma in 2013 with a major degree in General Studies.

Ancer tied for second in the Junior College National Golf Championship while he was in his junior year at Odessa College. During his first year, he had the most success where he had the sixth-lowest scoring average in the history of Oklahoma. In fact, he had second in all-time scoring average during his entire career.

Abraham started playing golf professionally in 2013. He competed at the Web.com Tour Qualifying School in December 2014, and there he tied for 35th place. In 2015, he competed on the Web.com Tour and finished as runner-up at the Brasil Champions. In July, he got a win at the Nova Scotia Open. Ancer eventually earned a PGA Tour card for 2016 after finishing 11 on the regular-season money list.

Ancer didn’t show his consistent game in his rookie year. Then, he competed at the FedEx St. Jude Classic where he had the best finish of T-18. After finishing 190 in the FedEx Cup points, he was able to maintain his Tour card for the 2017 season. Afterward, he was sent back to the Web.com Tour. He carded five top 5 finishes during the 2017 Web.com Tour. The top 5 finishes helped him to secure a PGA Tour card for the 2018 season.

Abraham competed at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba during the 2018 season. He had top 10 finishes at the Houston Open, the Quicken Loans National, the RBC Canadian Open, and the Dell Technologies Championship. He eventually earned an entry to his first major championship, the 2018 Open Championship after his high finish at the Quicken Loans National.

In the 2018-19 season, he had a 5-stroke win in the Australian Open, which gave him an entry to the 2019 Open Championship. In 2020, he played at the RBC Heritage and finished as runner-up. He led the tournament in Driving Accuracy and Greens In Regulation. Thereafter, he competed at the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2021 and finished second.

Ancer registered his first PGA Tour victory at the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. He won the tournament against Hideki Matsuyama and Sam Burns in two sudden-death playoffs. After a win, he became the four Mexican golfers to win on the PGA Tour. In June 2022, he officially signed with LIV Golf.
