Dale Holmes was 10 when he first noticed BMX reading a BMX mag back. Then, he competed at the Nottingham Outlaws BMX track in 9 years age group. He finished in fourth place on the BMX track. In 1985, he got his first national win at a 1985 United Kingdom National.

At 16 years of age, he turned professional after competing at the 1988 IBMXF European Championships. Following that, he competed in Superclass Poole UKBMX National and finished second place in a professional racing competition.

In 1988, he got his first professional victory at NBMXA British Championships. He retired from elite racing in late 2006 and focused on 4x Mountain Bike (MTB) Racing. However, he got back to BMX racing again and competed in the ABA Veteran’s Pro class.

In September 2007, he made his debut racing appearance at the ABA Black Jack Nationals. He was able to get the victory on Saturday (1 September). The following day, on Sunday, he finished in second place. Holmes was signed by KHS Bicycles to race Mountain Bikes post his BMX retirement at the Elite level.

Holmes started his own team as a primary bike sponsor with Chase Bicycles in 2014. During his BMX racing career, he has earned some notable accolades. In 1996, he was named the British Cyclist of the Year. Then, in 2009, he was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame.

Dale has also been European Champion twice. Likewise, he has been World Champion five times and the US National Champion three times. Holmes became an MTB racer full-time after retiring from Elite Racing. He started MTB racing in 2002 and has been British National 4-Cross Champion twice.
