Early Life

Gangsta Boo whose real name was Lola Chantrelle Mitchell was born on August 7, 1979, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born to a middle-class family. She had to bear a difficult time after her parents got divorced. Mitchell was interested in rapping from a young age and started rapping when she was just 14 years old.

Gangsta Boo started her rapping career after joining the hip-hop group “Three 6 Mafia” in the 1990s. In 1995, the group filled out with the addition of rappers Crunchy Black and Gangsta Boo. The same year, they released their debut album “Mystic Stylez” which went on to become a classic hit.

With the group, Gangsta Boo released two RIAA-certified platinum: “When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1” and “Most Known Unknown”. The group also went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 78^th Academy Awards for the song “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp”.

Mitchell left the group in the early 2000s. Her first solo album “Enquiring Minds” was released in 1998. The album reached number 15 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number 46 on the Billboard 200. The song “Where Dem Dollas At?” from the album was a massive hit.

In 2001, she released her second album titled “Both Words *69”. The album reached number 8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts and number 29 on the Billboard 200. A couple of years later, she released her third solo album “Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera”. The album peaked at number 53 on the R&B chart and 24 on the Independent Albums chart.

Gangsta Boo has released several mixtapes to her name as well. She was also featured on songs from rappers including Gucci Mane, OutKast, The Game, Lil Jon, E-40, and more.
