Early life

Ben’s full name is Benjamin Aaron Shapiro, and he was born in Los Angeles, California on January 15, 1984, to a Conservative Jewish family. He was nine when he and his family transitioned to Orthodox, Judaism. Shapiro was earlier interested in music, and at a very young age, he began playing the violin. Ben’s father has worked as a composer, and his mom has served as an executive of a TV company. 

Shapiro has studied at Walter Reed Middle School and Yeshiva University High School. He came out as a high school graduate at 16 years of age in 2000. Then he attended the University of California, from where he received a University degree in 2004 majoring in political science. In 2007, he became a law graduate from Harvard Law School.

After completing his law study, Ben started working at the law offices of the international law firm, Goodwin Procter. Ben was also interested in politics, and at 17 years of age, he began a nationally syndicated column. By reaching 21, he had already finished writing two books. 

His first book titled “Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America’s Youth” was published in 2004. He published his recent book titled “The Authoritarian Moment” in 2021, where he put his point by claiming that the authoritarian threat doesn’t come from the right-wing, in fact, it comes from the left’s control of academia, and journalism, Hollywood, and corporate America.

Ben started working as an editor-at-large of the far-right syndicated news website called Breibart News in 2012. He resigned from his post in March 2016 after he found the website is not supporting the reporter, Michelle Fields on her alleged assault by the political commentator, Corey Lewandowski.

After his departure from Breitbart News, he was frequently targeted by the alt-right. In October 2013, he founded the media watchdog and activism website, TruthRevolt along with his business partner, Jeremy Boreing. 

Ben has also served as a host of the morning radio show on the KRLA-Am 870 in 2012. On September 21, 2015, he and his business partner, Jeremy Boreing founded a conservative news website, The Daily Wire. He is currently serving as an editor emeritus and host of the online podcast “The Ben Shapiro Show”. The show was described as massively popular by the political journalism company, Politico in 2018.

He stepped down as editor-in-chief of the show in June 2020. In addition to hosting his own show, he has also hosted the Fox News’ The Ben Shapiro Election Special in September 2018.

Ben Shapiro has been married to an Israeli medical doctor, Mor Toledano since 2008. Together, they share three kids, 2 daughters, and a son. Ben and his family complained about a death threat in 2019, and after the complaint was filed, a man from Washington was arrested by the FBI. He is currently staying in South Florida after he moved out of California in September 2020.
